👋 In todays review we check out the 2023 BMW X6 M Competition and what an SUV this is!! It is stylish on the exterior, being mostly black with the staggered wheels and black accents, it gives it such a great look! The steep rake to the rear glass not only provides a great coupe like design, but also doesn't hinder interior spacer or rear seat passenger head room! The rest of the interior is spot on with premium feeling materials like carbon fiber, brushed aluminum and heated leather seats! And the solid red leather is a perfect combo to this factory paint! It has a ton of standard safety features and a lot of information in general that can be easily controlled in the center infotainment system! The driving aspect to this car is really where it shines! BMW is known for making really good handling sportscars, and they do a great job of bringing over that sportiness to the SUV lineup! The 2023 BMW X6 M Competition drives very nice and with the adaptive suspension, it handles well for it's weight and the paddles are even very responsive which is nice to see! This would be a great daily driver for sure!! The 2023 BMW X6 M Competition is the best blend between wanting a sportscar, but also needing the practicality of an SUV along with even being able to tow which is great to see from this sporty coupe like SUV! This is also the top trim level for this BMW with the most horsepower and if that's what you want, it's a perfect BMW SUV for the family!

Who’s ready for an INCREDIBLE performance SUV drag race?!

Mat’s in the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, and he’s lining up against a Lamborghini Urus, a Jeep Trackhawk, a BMW X6M and a Tesla Model X!!

It’ll come as no surprise to any of you that the stats are absolutely wild! Starting with the Porsche, it’s powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can deliver 640hp & 850Nm of torque. The Lambo alongside it is mighty similar, with the same size engine deliver 650hp & 850Nm of torque.

Then we come to the Trackhawk, which easily has the largest engine in the line-up - a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 which puts out 707hp & 875Nm of torque! It’s one of the heaviest cars here, though, weighing in over 2.4 tonnes!

Finally, we have the BMW & the Tesla. Under the X6M’s bonnet, you’ll find a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 which can produce 625hp & 750Nm, while the dual electric motors in the Model X producing power that eclipses the field, putting out 780hp & 1,140Nm.

Surely this has to be our greatest SUV drag race ever, right?! There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

Verdict The X6 M SUV is a bad-ass that can devour almost everything else on the road—SUV or otherwise—and that alone is reason to love it.

Overview
The BMW X6 M is a sloped-back brute-ute that packs a potent punch. It balances its high-octane antics with an interior that wraps its occupants in rich materials and a wealth of standard features. The X6 M offers much of the same content as its conventional looking sibling, the X5 M SUV, but thanks to its fastback roofline does so with slightly less cargo space and slightly more style. Propulsion is generated by a twin-turbo V-8 fitted with a hybrid system, which churns out 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. We’ve lauded the X6 M for its effortless speed and aggressive handling, and BMW claims that it's smoothed the edge off of its famously rocky ride this year. We’ll see. At the very least, we feel certain that the X6 M still has the chops to remain competitive against the likes of the Audi RS Q8 and Porsche Cayenne Coupe.

What's New for 2024?
BMW has given the X6 M a facelift for the 2024 model year, complete with revised sheet metal that creates a more chiseled look, crisp exterior lighting elements, a spruced-up interior with a new curved center display, and a new V-8 engine and eight-speed transmission fitted with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Additionally, the X6 M is now offered exclusively as a Competition model with 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. The German marque has outfitted the high-performance fastback SUV with other enhancements, too, including new carbon shift paddles, more standard safety tech, an M-specific version of iDrive, and more. There are also three new colors: Brooklyn Grey Metallic, Isle of Man Green Metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey Metallic.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
X6 M Competition: $128,195

It's hard to fathom how less practicality can command a higher price. Still, the 2023 X6 M costs more than its squareback counterpart, the X5 M. We prefer the less expensive body style, but the X6 certainly attracts more attention. Every X6 M built for the 2024 model year forward will be a Competition model, as the package content is now standard. This means every model gets the same 617 horsepower from the hybridized twin-turbo V-8 engine along with an adaptive M suspension, 21-inch front and 22-inch rear wheels, a panoramic roof, Harman Kardon audio system, a drive recorder and a slew of safety tech. We’d be inclined to spec our X6 M in the brilliant Isle Of Man Green Metallic and tick the box for the Executive Package, which adds luxurious features like soft-close automatic doors, LED lighting for the panoramic roof, heated-and-cooled cupholders, front ventilated massaging seats, front and rear heated seats, and rear manual side window shades.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The X6 M is motivated by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 that’s paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, which incorporates an electric motor mounted in the eight-speed automatic transmission. Combined output is the same 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque generated by earlier, non-hybrid Competition models. We’ve yet to get behind the wheel of the new hybridized version, which means we haven’t run it through our instrumented testing regimen either. That said, we expect the performance to at least match or exceed pre-facelift models. During our previous drive in the X6 M Competition, we lauded its lightning-quick acceleration, staggering cornering grip, and strong, fade-free brakes. While it rode smooth and steady on the highway, its large wheels and stiff springs contributed to a rocky ride on uneven roads. We appreciate the fact that this drivetrain can be told to distribute power to all four wheels for maximum traction or have most of it sent rearward for sharper handling. In addition to its selectable drive modes, including customizable settings that can be activated via steering-wheel-mounted buttons, the X6 M even features adjustable brake-pedal feedback. The BMW also has standard adaptive dampers and a set of staggered wheels measuring at 21-inches in the front and, but a pair of 22-inches in the rear.

Starting at $114.695

Highs Shocking power, high-quality interior, bursting with desirable standard equipment.
Lows Rocky ride, limited rear visibility, the X5 M SUV is cheaper and more practical.
Verdict The X6 M turns even the most mundane commute into a high-power drama with V-8 burble, but its low roofline and stiff ride make it challenging to live with.

Pricing and Which One to Buy
X6 M: $114,695

It's hard to fathom how less practicality can command a higher price. Still, the 2023 X6 M costs more than its squareback counterpart, the X5 M. We prefer the less expensive body style, but the X6 certainly attracts more attention. Regardless, the Competition package is a must-have. Not only does it bring 617 horsepower—17 more than normal—but it has better standard equipment too. This includes a sport-tuned exhaust, an exclusive Track mode, and 22-inch rear wheels (versus 21-inchers). The Competition package also brings fancier leather upholstery and knee padding on the center console to reduce punishment during hard cornering.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Gifted with the same raucous engine that powers the BMW M5 sedan, the X6 M is motivated by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8. It makes 600 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque in its natural state and 617 ponies with the Competition package. The engine hooks up to an eight-speed automatic transmission that feeds a dynamic all-wheel-drive system. This drivetrain can be told to distribute power to all four wheels for maximum traction or have most of it sent rearward for sharper handling. In addition to its selectable drive modes, including customizable settings that can be activated via steering-wheel-mounted buttons, the X6 M even features adjustable brake-pedal feedback. The BMW also has standard adaptive dampers and a set of 21-inch wheels, but a pair of 22-inchers can be fitted out back (they're standard on the X6 M Competition). We've driven the X6 M Competition and lauded its lightning-quick acceleration, staggering cornering grip, and strong, fade-free brakes. While it rode smooth and steady on the highway, its large wheels and stiff springs contributed to a rocky ride on uneven roads.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The X6 M is rated at 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. These ratings are identical to the X5 M. Since we haven't been able to test either Bimmer on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, we can't evaluate their real-world efficiency. For more information about the X6 M's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Sportiness and luxuriousness collide inside the X6 M, which boasts carbon-fiber accents and standard leather upholstery. There's also no shortage of high-tech features thanks to a 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster and a large head-up display. Those are accompanied by niceties such as ambient interior lighting, massaging front seats with heated and cooled surfaces, heated rear seats, and more. Interior cubby storage is highlighted by a coverable bin below the center stack and a useful center-console bin. While its coupe-like profile doesn't affect how comfortable it is for front- and back-seat passengers, the sloping roofline does reduce visibility out back as well as cargo space. The traditional X5 M provides 34 cubic feet behind the back row while the X6 M has only 27 cubes.

2022 / 2020 BMW X6 M: Check Your Six

A mean face and a meaner engine for BMW's redesigned, slope-back performance SUV conspire to bring terror to rearview mirrors everywhere.
Muscle cars are all well and good, but nothing says "get out of my way" like a hulking crossover with a front end so full of grille it looks as if it could suck the air out of Ford Field faster than the Detroit Lions. One glance of a BMW X6 M in your rear-view mirror and you know that you are being tracked down by one bad-ass SUV.

HIGHS: The ease with which it makes speed, sports-car handling, lavish luxury appointments.

The X6 M is the hot-rodded version of the third-generation X6, which is the slope-back sibling of the more conventional X5. Both the X5 and X6 have been redesigned for 2020, and the folks at BMW's Motorsport division are now releasing their high-horsepower makeover. We sampled both the X5 M and X6 M at a recent BMW launch event on the roads between Phoenix and Prescott, Arizona, and found the driving experience to be identical, so choosing between the two is really about style.

Should you choose the X6's fastback styling, you'll be giving up seven cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row compared to the X5, and 13 cubic feet with the second row folded. Choosing the X6 will also cost you $3500 more than the X5 M.

We like the X6's standard engines a lot, but the X6 M is next level stuff. It makes good on the rearview-mirror threat with its twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 that pounds out 600 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 553 lb-ft of torque between 1800 and 5690 rpm. Should that not be enough, and you have $9000 more to spend, the Competition package punches the output up to 617 horses—as if the X6 M needed more muscle. Torque is unchanged.

LOWS: Sometimes rocky ride, the more practical X5 M does the same thing for less money, makes avoiding tickets impossible.

On the standard version, the M division tones up the chassis with revised adaptive dampers, an active front anti-roll bar, stiffer engine mounts, additional front-wheel camber, and staggered Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires—sized 295/35R-21 in front and 315/35R-21 at the rear. Competition models add several standard goodies to an already comprehensively equipped SUV. Mechanical revisions include a strut-tower brace, a deeper-voiced sport exhaust system, a special track-driving mode, and 22-inch rear wheels. Areas of the interior not covered in merino leather in the standard X6 M are slathered in it, there are special Competition seatbelt colors, and the exterior trim is blacked out.

The all-wheel-drive system sends the majority of the power rearward to an electronic limited-slip rear differential. As in all modern M cars, there are many ways to mix and match the three driving modes—Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus—with the eight-speed automatic transmission's three shift programs. BMW claims a zero-to-60-mph time of 3.8 seconds for the X6 M, which sounds conservative considering we coaxed a 3.8-second run out a V-8–powered X6 M50i, which has 77 fewer horses under its hood. BMW says the Competition model will accelerate to 60 mph a tenth of a second quicker than the standard X6 M.

Out on the road, the X6 M Competition will make you feel like the master of all you survey. Only a handful of cars can pull away from it; you pass on two-lanes with arrogance, not mere confidence; and when equipped with the $2500 M Driver's package that our test car had, top speed is raised from 155 mph to a claimed 177.

This brute-ute is more than just a straight-line rocket, however. It will take something special—and a skilled driver wheeling it—to leave it behind on twisting roads. Thanks to its stiff springs and sticky tires, it feels as if it can tear serpentine two-lanes to shreds. Its brakes refuse to fade no matter how high the speedo needle swings between corners. Triple-digit speeds arrive in a neck-straining whoosh—and with a rich roll of thunder from the exhaust if you've selected the Sport Plus or Track modes. The only complaint we have is that steering feedback evaporates as you corner hard. But that doesn't slow this thing down.

Like anything with this much power, driving the X6 M on public roads is as frustrating as it is satisfying. So much pent-up power, so much handling in reserve, so few places to unleash the animal. It's comfortable enough on the highway—at least on the well-preserved Arizona pavement—to use as an everyday commuter. But where's the fun in that? The call of the mighty V-8 is irresistible and will have you filling rearview mirrors with the get-out-of-my-way face of an X6 M.

Overview

The unusually-shaped BMW X6 M packs a vicious 600 horsepower from its twin-turbo V-8 and sends that muscle through a rear-biased all-wheel-drive drivetrain. Moving this mountain of M-power is a posh affair thanks to an elegant, high-tech interior with lavish standard equipment and near-perfect fit-and-finish. The X6 M’s sticky performance summer tires and stiffly-sprung chassis produce a harsher ride than in the standard X6, and BMW turns the volume up even higher on its exciting mid-size luxury SUV with an optional Competition package that adds 17 horsepower, a rowdy M Sport exhaust, and sport seats. Other SUVs such as the Porsche Cayenne Coupe and Mercedes-AMG GLE-class have followed the X6’s sloping-rear-roofline look and, like the X6 M, prioritize style over maximum rear storage space.

What's New for 2023?
Nothing. BMW makes no major changes to the X6 M for 2023.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
X6 M: $114,695

It's hard to fathom how less practicality can command a higher price. Still, the 2023 X6 M costs more than its squareback counterpart, the X5 M. We prefer the less expensive body style, but the X6 certainly attracts more attention. Regardless, the Competition package is a must-have. Not only does it bring 617 horsepower—17 more than normal—but it has better standard equipment too. This includes a sport-tuned exhaust, an exclusive Track mode, and 22-inch rear wheels (versus 21-inchers). The Competition package also brings fancier leather upholstery and knee padding on the center console to reduce punishment during hard cornering.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Gifted with the same raucous engine that powers the BMW M5 sedan, the X6 M is motivated by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8. It makes 600 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque in its natural state and 617 ponies with the Competition package. The engine hooks up to an eight-speed automatic transmission that feeds a dynamic all-wheel-drive system. This drivetrain can be told to distribute power to all four wheels for maximum traction or have most of it sent rearward for sharper handling. In addition to its selectable drive modes, including customizable settings that can be activated via steering-wheel-mounted buttons, the X6 M even features adjustable brake-pedal feedback. The BMW also has standard adaptive dampers and a set of 21-inch wheels, but a pair of 22-inchers can be fitted out back (they're standard on the X6 M Competition). We've driven the X6 M Competition and lauded its lightning-quick acceleration, staggering cornering grip, and strong, fade-free brakes. While it rode smooth and steady on the highway, its large wheels and stiff springs contributed to a rocky ride on uneven roads.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The X6 M is rated at 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. These ratings are identical to the X5 M. Since we haven't been able to test either Bimmer on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, we can't evaluate their real-world efficiency. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Sportiness and luxuriousness collide inside the X6 M, which boasts carbon-fiber accents and standard leather upholstery. There's also no shortage of high-tech features thanks to a 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster and a large head-up display. Those are accompanied by niceties such as ambient interior lighting, massaging front seats with heated and cooled surfaces, heated rear seats, and more. Interior cubby storage is highlighted by a coverable bin below the center stack and a useful center-console bin. While its coupe-like profile doesn't affect how comfortable it is for front- and back-seat passengers, the sloping roofline does reduce visibility out back as well as cargo space. The traditional X5 M provides 34 cubic feet behind the back row while the X6 M has only 27 cubes.

The new #BMWM X6M and X5M Facelifts are here - and a significant update in the LCI (life cycle impulse) for the #BMW performance SUV duo. They arrive at an interesting time, when the new BMW XM is making the wrong kind of waves, this duo brings a more traditional format of pure combustion in a lighter set up.

Well, almost pure, because now every X6 and X5 now comes with a 48 volt
Mild Hybrid system, including our M Models for the first time, thus these are the first M Models to feature mild hybrid tech!

Big changes in the new V8 engine update, still the 4.4 litre bit with a cross-bank exhaust manifold for better thermal management, a reinforced crankshaft drive and updated turbocharging! (Just like in the XM!) This gives a big kick of power, up to 625HP now, with 750NM and an impressive 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.

The hybrid change connects to this in the form of an electrified eight-speed automatic gearbox, which has a mild hybrid system built within it to give a small HP boost alongside 200NM immediately. The gearbox also comes with hydraulic transmission mounts giving a stiffer connection between the drive train and body. BMW has also developed a ‘near-actuator wheel slip limitation’ system that works in conjunction with the AWD set-up, rear diff, stability control - it now works 10 times faster than conventional traction control.

A big change needed comes to steering, where there’s also speed-sensitive electric power steering, with a revised steering gear on both models. We also get Adaptive M suspension Professional with updated electronically controlled dampers and active roll stabilisation. Dampers now act faster, to allow better comfort and sporty response respectively. Toe in values on the rear have been adjusted for high speeds They have also worked on rigidity around the whole car, with further bracing, bridges and arms to help dynamics.

Big news also for the BMW X6 M60i, which now uses the same V8 BMW M engine S68, replacing the outgoing N63 engine, it’s a proper M engine in a standard BMW! And the M60i also looks fantastic.

But perhaps not as fantastic as the new X5M and X6M - with all new front end aggression. We have New lights, which may mimic new 5 series. They are slimmer than the older ones - and complement the massive grille change. Grille looks amazing in gloss and matte black, and linking to the lower bumper. We have Staggered wheels as before, and the X6M gets spoiler lip and rear spoiler too. Big changes inside with BMW Operating System 8 pro, a huge curved LED screen replacing the old tech - I’ll show you every detail too along with a boost space comparison between X5 and X6!

As for the X6M, it's packing a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can produce an almighty 625hp and 700Nm. As for the Porsche, it's got an electric motor alongside it's 4-litre twin-turbo V8, so it can produce 680hp and an epic 900Nm! The RSQ8 rolls in with the least power, but it's not all bad... After all, it can still put down 600hp & 800Nm from its own 4-litre twin-turbo V8!

Under the Lambo’s bonnet, you’ll find a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 which can deliver 650hp and 850Nm. As for the BMW, it may pack a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, but it only puts down 625hp & 750Nm! But that’s not all… The Urus is also 200kg lighter than the X6M!
