Mercedes-AMG 4.0L V8 Biturbo Engine Production in Affalterbach, Germany

The M176/M177/M178 is a V8 petrol engine range designed by Mercedes-AMG, replacing Mercedes-Benz M278 engine and Mercedes-Benz M157 engine, and is based on the Mercedes-AMG M133.

The engine has two BorgWarner turbochargers positioned between the two cylinder heads in a "hot-V" configuration. The fuel injection system uses Bosch's new piezo-electric direct fuel injectors that deliver five squirts of fuel per combustion cycle.

The M176 engines are mostly assembled by machine with some components assembled by technicians at Untertürkheim manufacturing centre outside Stuttgart. The M177 and M178 are individually assembled by the technicians in "one man, one engine" principle at AMG manufacturing centre in Affalterbach.

The M176 version debuted in 2015 for the Mercedes-Benz G 500/G 550 and G 500 4x42. In 2019, M176 was equipped with EQ Boost mild hybrid 48V electrical system, producing additional output 16 kW (22 PS) and 250 N⋅m (184 lb⋅ft) of torque. This mild hybrid system was fitted to GLE 580 4MATIC and GLS 580 4MATIC. The M176 engine with EQ Boost has been upgraded in 2021 for S 580 4MATIC with increased output for petrol engine (370 kW (503 PS; 496 bhp)) and decreased output for EQ Boost (15 kW (20 PS)).

The M177 was the first variation released in the Mercedes-AMG C63. In contrast to the M178, this version of the engine uses wet-sump lubrication. In the C63 and GLC63 applications, the turbos are single-scrolled, whereas in E63 and S63 are twin-scrolled and different exhaust manifold. The twin-scroll application also features cylinder deactivation.[6]

As part of the agreement with Mercedes-AMG since 2013, Aston Martin installs the M177 engines in DB11 V8 and DB Volante(2017–), Vantage (2018–), and DBX (2021–).

In late 2019, the 48V system used in the M176 was added to the M177 engines for extra performance, improved fuel consumption, and reduced emission output.

The M178 is the second variation in the family, geared toward higher performance and motorsport. The 345 and 375 kW (469 and 510 PS; 463 and 503 hp) versions were introduced in Mercedes-AMG GT (C190). The power has been upgraded several times. Brabus offers PowerXtra B40S-800, a performance upgrade kit for AMG GT. The kit increases the output to 588 kW (799 PS; 789 hp) at 6,500 rpm and 1,000 N⋅m (738 lb⋅ft) at 1,750-4,500 rpm.

The A 35 Sedan is powered by a M260 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a seven-speed AMG Speedshift 7G dual-clutch transmission to drive all four wheels via an AMG Performance 4Matic system. The 0-100 km/h sprint is done in 4.8 seconds and the top speed is capped at 250 km/h.

It’s a car of massive, mighty numbers, the new Mercedes-AMG C63. Take the power outputs: 680 metric horsepower (or 670bhp), and a frankly baffling 752lb ft of torque. Welcome to a world where a Mercedes C-Class has more power than a Ferrari Enzo.

Yet it’ll also do a claimed 34 miles per gallon and emit just 156g/km of CO2 – about the same as a Golf GTI. And that’s because instead of a thumping great V8, the C63 now has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, and F1-inspired hybrid boost under its nostrilled bonnet.

80 per cent of the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo engine is carried over from the mad, bad A45 S hot hatch. What’s new is an electric motor for spooling up the turbo. This is designed to eliminate turbo lag and increase output – and means a relatively tiny engine generates 460bhp. That’s almost as much as you used to get from the old 6.2-litre V8…

AMG claims 0-62mph happens in 3.4 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 174mph. Very fast, no doubt – but the current BMW M3 is just as quick, despite having ‘only’ 503bhp.

The right call? Something tells us this is 2022’s most divisive new fast car.

3年前曾在美國德州奧斯汀F1賽車場試駕了Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupé，而今天在台灣為大家試駕的車款是2022年的Mercedes-AMG GT43 4MATIC+4-Door Coupé。台灣目前引進的只有入門的Mercedes-AMG GT43 4-Door Coupé，而未來台灣賓士會再引進Mercedes-AMG GT63 S 4-Door Coupé最頂級的版本！官方標準車型售價為547萬元。而本次試駕的車款選配完後的車輛總價為699.2萬元！


動力的部分，使用的是AMG直列六缸/缸內直噴48V高效輕油電系統及電子渦輪技術，最大馬力可達到367hp（+22 hp ），扭力則是500Nm，0-100 km/h加速4.9秒，搭配AMG Performance 4MATIC+主動式四輪驅動可讓前輪扭力分配：0-50%；後輪扭力分配：50-100%可達到完全後驅的模式，加上AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT九速跑車變速箱，極速可達到270公里！


外觀方面，這次GT43的外型相較以往更加的運動化了，在外觀上的AMG空力套件已經有達到以往63的水準！外觀上比較明顯的有AMG代表的鍍鉻直瀑式水箱護罩、AMG四出排氣管、全景電動玻璃天窗、電動多段升降尾翼、AMG 20吋鋁圈、AMG RIDE CONTROL+進階可變阻尼懸吊系統（氣壓懸吊），可讓你應變各種路況，而大燈的部分採用的是多光束智慧型 LED 頭燈 。


內裝部分，首先看到的是駕駛座正前方的一體式螢幕，它是由12.3吋的數位儀表板及12.3吋車機螢幕組成的。而車輛內裝選配的有獨立後座套件、豪華Nappa真皮（附紅色車縫線）、抬頭顯示器、AMG高性能賽車座椅、THERMOTRONIC豪華多區恆溫空調、碳纖維飾板、AMG蜻蜓式高性能平底跑車方向盤，特別的是方向盤下方有快速切換模式的旋鈕，在行進間可以更快的切換駕駛模式。再配上標配的Burmester® 環場音響系統，讓整個駕駛艙增添不少戰鬥氣息！


科技安全配備上，在車頭Logo看到平標的設計就可以清楚知道這台車有搭載23p的功能，就是賓士的智慧駕駛輔助套件，裡面包含「DISTRONIC 智能定速測距輔助、智能轉向輔助、閃避轉向輔助、主動防撞輔助含路口車流辨識、行人偵測及車道壅塞防撞輔助、主動盲點輔助含離車警示輔助、主動車道維持輔助、PRE-SAFE® PLUS 主動後方安全防護、主動停車輔助附前後雷達、智能警示輔助 (後方橫向車流警示及起步限速輔助)、360 度環景攝影、PRE-SAFE® 主動安全防護音波、PRE-SAFE® 主動安全防護、駕駛注意力輔助系統」。而被動安全的部分，全車搭載7具氣囊，包含駕駛者有一具膝部氣囊。主動安全的部分有「TPMS 胎壓偵測系統、防鎖定煞車系統 (ABS)、三階段式 ESP® 電子操控系統、Adaptive Brake 智慧型煞車系統、智慧型煞車燈 (具緊急煞車時閃爍功能)、電子式駐車煞車、車外後視鏡附 LED 方向燈、LED 尾燈含序列式指示方向燈」。
