Do you agree? 🤨 #travel #shorts
Experiences matter more than possessions. ✨
I never imagined myself being able to live in a van with few possessions, let alone for almost 3 years!
For most of you who have joined our travel journey since we started sharing it here on YouTube, you might be fooled into thinking that I must be a ‘natural minimalist’ in order to be able to make this tiny lifestyle work.
It’s quite the opposite actually.
In fact, it was 8 years ago that I landed my dream job in advertising, in New York. So I packed my bags and left Dublin to pursue the high-paced life I had longed for. And although I loved my job and thrived off the buzzy New York energy, I realise now that I spent my money filling a void by buying material things. Shoes, clothes… going out. That’s where my money went.
And now, whilst I still appreciate and love all the excitement that comes with city life, I feel happier and more fulfilled spending my money on travel experiences vs. possessions. Possessions which by the way, I ended up donating or reluctantly throwing away when I minimalised my life to move into our tiny campervan with Adam. It was not easy for me to let go of these things but as soon as I did, I felt far freer!
I also know now that when the day comes for us to settle down, I will fill my home with fewer items that are cherished, of quality and are ethically made & sustainable vs. the cheap ‘throw-away’ high street fast fashion items I bought before, damaging to people & the planet.😔
Let me know if the comments if any of this resonates with you! 💛 You can listen to our podcast [search: Jits into the Sunset] to learn more about how Adam and I took the plunge to quit our city jobs, in search of full-time travel and adventure!
