As the series comes to a close, Stranger Things season 5 must finally solve a mystery about Dustin Henderson that has been left unaddressed since season 1. Despite the fact that Dustin plays such an integral role in Stranger Things’ story, much of his family life and background has remained untouched. Dustin’s mother Claudia Henderson wasn’t even properly introduced until Stranger Things season 2, which is a big missed opportunity considering the home lives and family dynamics of his best friends have been given important spotlights throughout Stranger Things’ first four seasons.

The largest explorations of Dustin Henderson’s personal life have been through his friendships in Hawkins and romance with Suzie (whose father and seven siblings appear in Stranger Things season 4), though the latter relationship is still hardly seen. In lieu of going into depth about Dustin’s relationships with his family members, Stranger Things focuses on his tight connections with Steve Harrington and Eddie Munson. However, these friendships don’t give a holistic look at Dustin’s life, as Stranger Things is still extremely vague about how his family functions, which is a key component of a character’s coming-of-age story. For Stranger Things season 5 to properly wrap up Dustin Henderson’s story, it must answer one burning question about his parents.
