Terminator: Dark Fate lost its studio a considerable amount of money, as the movie had a budget of almost $200 million, and with its marketing budget and the movie theaters' cut on top of that, the film would have needed to gross around $500 million to break even. Despite that, the studio still hasn't given up on the franchise, and there have been major developments with the seventh movie. The sequel is not only happening, but franchise creator James Cameron is writing Terminator 7. While nobody is asking for another installment, if anybody can make the Terminator franchise exciting again, it's Cameron.

He wrote and directed the first two movies, and while he won't be directing Terminator 7, his screenplay will likely be better than any of the previous installments given that he knows the lore more than anybody. Though Cameron was a producer on all the Terminator movies, he seems to have a newfound interest in the series, and he's already talking about interesting new directions for Terminator 7. The director explained, "If I were to do another Terminator film and maybe try to launch that franchise again... I would make it much more about the AI side than bad robots gone crazy." That ironically sounds a lot like The Creator.
